HALO recovery: what to expect and how to plan

After HALO laser treatment, skin can feel hot, look red and become swollen. A rough, bronzed stage follows as tiny dots of treated skin darken and shed. Serene’s general guidance is to allow around five to seven days of social downtime, but your treatment plan and healing response may require longer.

“Social downtime” means time when you may prefer to avoid meetings, photographs or events because of how your skin looks. It does not mean healing is complete or every activity can restart at the end of that week.

Why recovery varies

HALO combines two laser wavelengths in small treatment zones. One removes tiny areas at the surface while the other heats tissue beneath it. The settings, treatment area and your skin’s response affect recovery.

Someone else’s day-by-day photographs can give you an idea of the visible changes. They cannot tell you exactly how your skin will look on the same day. Tell Dr. Sarai about upcoming work commitments, travel and events before settling on a date.

The early stage: warmth, redness and swelling

Warmth can be noticeable after treatment, and redness and swelling are expected. Swelling may be more noticeable the following morning, particularly around the eyes, and can change over the first few days.

Use the comfort measures and skincare instructions provided by the clinic. Prepare those supplies before your appointment so you do not need to choose new products while your skin is sensitive. Keep the aftercare instructions somewhere easy to find.

The rough stage: tiny dark dots and flaking

As treated skin works its way to the surface, small dark dots can create a bronzed appearance and a sandpaper feel. Flaking follows. The roughness can be tempting to scrub, especially when makeup catches on it.

Let it shed naturally. Avoid picking, scrubs and exfoliating tools. Follow the prescribed cleansing and moisturising routine rather than adding products to make the peeling finish faster. Recovery may look uneven across the treated area.

As the surface settles

The skin can remain pink or sensitive after much of the roughness has cleared. A smoother surface is not a signal to resume your whole skincare routine at once. Ask when to restart retinoids, exfoliating acids and any other active products you use.

Makeup should wait until the clinic’s criteria for healing are met. The same applies to strenuous exercise and activities that cause heavy sweating. Arrange your schedule around the aftercare plan rather than assuming these are permitted on a particular day.

Planning work, events and travel

Working from home may be manageable sooner than a job that involves outdoor exposure, heat or a public-facing event. Discuss your actual duties when asking how much time to set aside.

Avoid placing a treatment immediately before an important occasion. Give the clinic the date so there is room for visible recovery and for any concerns to be assessed. If travel would make follow-up difficult or leave you in strong sun, mention that before booking.

Sun protection remains necessary in Surrey’s cooler months. Follow your instructions for sunscreen, shade and protective clothing. Cloud cover and a lower temperature do not remove the need to protect healing skin.

When to contact the clinic

Contact Serene promptly if you develop excessive swelling, increasing warmth around the treated area, pus-like drainage or fever. These need assessment. You can also contact the clinic if you are unsure whether a change fits your expected recovery.

Call 604-503-9966 using the clinic’s published contact details and follow the contact instructions supplied with your treatment. If symptoms are severe or you feel acutely unwell, seek urgent medical care rather than waiting for a routine reply.

Before choosing HALO

At Serene Rejuvenation in Surrey, Dr. Sundeep Sarai personally performs every treatment. A consultation considers your skin concern, medical history and capacity for recovery. HALO may be considered for concerns involving uneven tone and texture, but it is not the right choice for every type of pigmentation or skin change.

If you are comparing treatments, read the HALO and BBL guide and review current pricing. When you book a consultation, bring your calendar and skincare list. Ask for a recovery estimate for your proposed treatment and explain anything that could make the aftercare difficult to follow.
