The Treatment

How it works

BBL® HEROic is Sciton’s newest generation of BroadBand Light, the technology behind the photofacial. We are among the first clinics in the Lower Mainland equipped with it. It brings Intelligent Control, faster treatments and more consistent energy delivery to every session.

Treatment feels like brief warm snaps of light. Pigment and vessels absorb the energy, then flake away or fade over the following days, leaving clearer and more even-toned skin. Every BBL® session at Serene is performed by Dr. Sarai personally.

Whether this one suits you is confirmed at your consultation, after Dr. Sarai has looked at your skin.

FAQ

What is BBL® HEROic?

BBL® stands for BroadBand Light, an intense pulsed light platform made by Sciton® and the technology behind the modern photofacial. HEROic is its newest generation, adding Intelligent Control, faster treatment and more consistent energy delivery. It is a skin treatment for pigment, redness and tone, unrelated to the “Brazilian butt lift” surgery that shares the BBL abbreviation.

Does BBL® hurt?

Most people describe each pulse as a brief warm snap, like a small elastic flick, and the chilled handpiece cools the skin as it works. Sessions are usually completed comfortably without numbing cream; if you are sensitive, tell us and we adjust the approach.

Who performs photofacial treatments at Serene?

Dr. Sundeep Sarai performs every photofacial herself, as she does all treatments at the clinic. She is a physician practising in Surrey, BC; she also designs your treatment plan and reviews how your skin responds between sessions.

Is there any downtime after BBL®?

Very little. Skin can look flushed for a few hours, and treated pigment typically darkens before flaking away over roughly three to seven days, a little like coffee grounds. Most people return to normal activities immediately and can wear mineral makeup the next day.

How many sessions will I need?

A corrective series of three to five sessions, around four weeks apart, is typical, though it depends on how much sun damage or redness you start with. Dr. Sarai confirms a realistic number at your consultation rather than quoting a one-size figure.

How long do the results last?

That depends mostly on sun exposure and your skin’s own ageing. Many people maintain their result with periodic maintenance sessions (typically a few per year) alongside daily sun protection.

How should I prepare for a treatment?

Avoid tanning, self-tanner and significant sun exposure for a few weeks before your session, and tell us about any medications that increase light sensitivity. You will receive specific instructions when you book.

What aftercare does BBL® need?

Gentle skincare, no picking at darkened pigment while it flakes away naturally, and diligent sun protection. We go through a simple aftercare routine with you before you leave the clinic.

Am I a candidate for BBL®?

BBL® works best on light to medium skin tones; deeper skin tones need a more cautious assessment, because pigment in the skin also absorbs light energy. Dr. Sarai assesses your skin, history and goals before recommending it.
