Chronic Muscle Tension

Muscles that forgot how to let go.

Understanding

What’s really
going on

Chronic muscle tension develops when the muscles of the neck and shoulders, especially the trapezius, hold a low-grade contraction for weeks or months at a time. Desk work, stress and posture all feed it. Massage and stretching bring relief, but often only briefly, because the muscle returns to the same guarded, tightened state as soon as the session ends.

Dr. Sarai treats persistent neck and trapezius tension with Botox® or Xeomin®, injected precisely into the muscles doing the overwork. The medication reduces the muscle’s constant contraction, giving it a chance to let go, with the effect building over days and typically lasting three to four months. Whether this approach suits your tension, and the dose it would take, is decided together at your consultation.

The Treatment

Treating Chronic Muscle Tension

Whether it suits your skin is decided with Dr. Sarai at your consultation.

The Plan

Three Steps To Releasing the Tension

  1. Assess

Dr. Sarai maps where the neck and trapezius muscles are holding tension and rules out causes that need a different approach.

  2. Treat

Botox® or Xeomin® is injected precisely into the overworked muscles to ease their constant contraction.

  3. Maintain

The effect typically lasts three to four months, and retreatment is planned with Dr. Sarai as it fades.
