Understanding

What’s really
going on

Age spots and sun spots are flat, darkened patches that build up after years of UV exposure, usually on the face, chest and hands. They mark cumulative sun damage: pigment cells go into overdrive and lay down melanin unevenly.

Treatment matches the depth of the pigment. BBL® HEROic light therapy targets the excess melanin in discrete spots, while laser resurfacing with HALO®, ProFractional or Contour TRL renews the skin around deeper, more established damage. The options run from PCA chemical peels and the lighter laser peels through deep resurfacing, and Dr. Sarai matches the choice to how deep your pigment sits and how much downtime suits you.

Not sure which treatment is right for you? Every plan starts with a consultation and a proper look at your skin.

How we treat it

Sun spots sit at different depths in different people, and depth decides the treatment. Pigment lying near the surface responds well to lighter resurfacing, which lifts the marked cells away with the outer skin layer. Deeper, more established pigment calls for HALO®, whose hybrid wavelengths reach below the surface while treating the top layer in the same pass, or ProFractional and Contour TRL where damage is concentrated and stubborn.

Dr. Sarai begins by establishing where your pigment sits and how your skin is likely to respond, including whether what looks like a simple sun spot needs a closer medical look first. The treatment is then calibrated to that assessment: enough depth to clear the pigment, no more depth than your skin requires. Treated spots typically darken briefly, then flake away as the skin renews.

Who it’s for

Adults with flat brown patches on the face, chest or hands that have accumulated over years of sun, and anyone whose “tan” now settles unevenly. Light to medium skin tones are the most straightforward to treat; deeper tones need more conservative settings, because the same energy that targets a sun spot can affect surrounding pigment. That judgement call is made by Dr. Sarai at assessment, and if a gentler route will serve your skin better, that is what will be recommended.

What to expect

Most people need a small series of sessions, spaced weeks apart, with the number depending on how much accumulated damage is being cleared. Expect treated spots to look darker for several days before they flake. That is the pigment leaving, not a setback. Downtime is modest: redness and the temporary “coffee-ground” speckling, with normal activities continuing throughout for lighter treatments.

Brightening builds across the series, and the finished result depends on the one variable no laser controls: sun exposure afterwards. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is what keeps cleared skin clear. We pair every plan with straightforward pigment-aware skincare so the result you paid for lasts.

The Plan

Three Steps To Brighter Skin

  1. Assess

Before any laser is chosen, we establish how deep your pigment sits and how your skin is likely to respond.

  2. Treat

A series matched to your pigment depth and schedule, from gentle peels and BBL® HEROic light therapy through deeper laser resurfacing, breaking up excess melanin while renewing the surrounding skin.

  3. Maintain

Daily sun protection and pigment-aware skincare, which do more than anything else to keep spots from returning.
