Acne Scarring

Scars soften when the skin is given a reason to rebuild.

Understanding

What’s really
going on

Acne scars form when breakouts damage the skin faster than it can rebuild, leaving pits, dents or uneven texture behind. The damage sits below the surface, so scars don’t fade with skincare alone. The skin needs a reason to rebuild its collagen.

Fractional laser resurfacing creates controlled micro-channels that trigger fresh collagen exactly where scars sit. Depending on how deep the scarring goes and how much downtime suits you, Dr. Sarai may recommend HALO®, ProFractional or Contour TRL, often combined into one plan. Shallower scarring, or skin that wants a gentler start, can begin further down the ladder, with options running from PCA chemical peels and SkinPen® microneedling through the lighter laser peels.

Not sure which treatment is right for you? Every plan starts with a consultation and a proper look at your skin.

Your Options

Treatments for Acne Scarring

Which of these suits your skin is decided with Dr. Sarai at your consultation.

How we treat it

Acne scars are structural, so the treatments we use are structural too. ProFractional drives thousands of pinpoint laser channels into the scarred tissue, prompting the skin to replace dense, disorganised scar collagen with fresh, healthy structure. HALO® works more broadly, treating the scarred area and the surrounding texture in the same pass, so improvement blends in rather than standing out. For the deepest, most etched scarring, Contour TRL resurfacing removes damaged tissue outright at a depth Dr. Sarai tunes to your skin.

Most acne-scar plans combine these tools rather than choosing one. A typical example: ProFractional concentrated on the scars themselves, layered with HALO® across the full cheek so tone and texture improve together. Dr. Sarai maps your scarring (rolling, boxcar, ice-pick, or mixed) and sequences the plan around what each scar type responds to.

Who it’s for

Laser scar revision suits adults whose acne is no longer active. Treating scars while breakouts continue means new scars form behind the treatment, so active acne is settled first, often with Forever Clear BBL®. It also suits people willing to accept a few days of downtime per session in exchange for progressive, cumulative change. Deeper skin tones can often be treated with conservative fractional settings; Dr. Sarai will assess honestly and adjust the plan, or the tool, to keep treatment safe for your skin.

What to expect

Scar remodelling is a series, not an event. Most plans involve two to four sessions spaced several weeks apart. Sessions begin with numbing cream; the treatment itself feels like brief, sharp heat. Afterwards, expect a few days of redness and mild swelling, with pinpoint crusting where the channels were placed.

Improvement arrives on collagen’s schedule, not the calendar’s: texture looks smoother within weeks of each session, but the deeper rebuilding continues for three to six months after the series ends. Photographs at each visit track the change objectively, and daily sun protection through the series protects the new collagen you have paid to build.
